About Diane Tompkins
Welcome to my website! I am so glad you found your way here!
I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor in beautiful Victoria, British Columbia and I am happy to provide virtual counselling in other regions as well. Here are some things you might like to know about me:
My Educational Background:
My varied educational background is helpful in my own life and in my work with others. I have a BA in Sociology which gives me a foundational understanding the socio-economic forces at play in people’s lives and a BEd in Education, which provides me with tools for helping people learn in the ways that work best for them. I also have an MA in Counselling Psychology which enables me to help others in deep and meaningful ways. I continually enhance my knowledge through reading and attending workshops etc. I am truly and happily a lifelong learner!
My Experience:
I have worked in the helping professions for over 20 years as an advocate, educator and as a counsellor. Past positions include Community Development Advocate, providing support and advocacy for vulnerable individuals and their families, District Integration Teacher, developing individualized learning plans for diverse students in the public school system and as a Counsellor, providing therapy in a wide range of programs in a non-profit organization. I loved each of these positions and I continue to draw upon these experiences in my counselling practice.
I currently have a private practice in which I am able to do what I love – helping people create positive change in their lives and in the world.
My Approach:
I believe counselling is an important component in cultivating peace and justice in our world and I see community and connection with nature as fundamental to our health and well-being.
My work is rooted in diverse but complementary theories, I incorporate a variety of approaches into my practice and I work collaboratively with my clients. These include Expressive Art Therapy, Mindfulness Practice, and CBT.
Together we can discover your unique path toward healing and to develop effective ways to respond to whatever challenges you are facing.
